Pendant Light

An interpretation of the classic ‘Butcher’s Light’, a plastic pendant lamp shade used in virtually every market stall in Hong Kong and which has been manufactured by the local ‘Red A’ brand since the 1950’s. We were interested in exploring how such a seemingly simple and utilitarian design could be elevated and brought into another context by changing its material and refining some of the details. Our explorations resulted in a porcelain lampshade with a bespoke LED light fitting and braided cord, thus transforming it into an altogether different product.
