Confluence 20+ Exhibition
A flagship exhibition series organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre to offer a perspective on Hong Kong’s creative ecologies. The exhibition included 20 of Hong Kong’s leading proponents in the fields of architecture, product design, graphic design and fashion, and was shown at the Triennale di Milano (Italy), Hong Kong City Hall, Seoul Dongdaemun Design Plaza (South Korea) and the Design Museum of Chicago (USA).
Extract from the exhibition display:
“Much of our understanding of the objects around us comes from how we use and relate to them in everyday life. By observing how things are used and by studying the environment around them, we can often discover new opportunities or alternative perspectives.
In this exhibition we present a selection of recent projects based on such observations, which also embrace important aspects such as context, relevance, atmosphere, materiality and simplicity. The selection includes production pieces alongside unpublished concept prototypes. It is organised and presented in a setting which makes a nod to the food stalls known as ‘Dai Pai Dong’ in Cantonese, an integral part of Hong Kong’s streetscape and collective memory - and a source of inspiration for some of this work.”
The touring exhibitions were followed by the publication of a book offering more detailed insight into each of the contributing designers’ work and approach.
